Campaigns of Conquest and Pacification was the name given to a wide range of military operations, ranging from very uneven, conducted over the last decades of the nineteenth century and the first two decades of the twentieth century by the Portuguese armed forces in Portugal's African colonies and East Timor. Most of these campaigns focused on the period between the Berlin Conference (1884) and the end of World War I (1918), corresponding to the effort of effective occupation of the interior of the territories where Portugal had an historical presence in the coastal zone and main commercial axis.
